The Limerick Planning Commission approved plans for a five-pump, double-sided fueling station at Ridge Pike and Township Line Road during Monday’s meeting. Next stop is the Board of Supervisors.
Giant Food Stores, which operates a grocery store on the Upper Providence side of Township Line, recently secured seven variances from Limerick to construct the gas station.
The lot was once occupied by Valero. At one time, the owner proposed a car wash but several township officials opposed the plan, including former Supervisor and Planning Commission member Frank Kotch.
Giant’s proposed gas station would include sidewalks and vehicle entrances along both sides of the property, according to a company attorney. Diesel will not be offered.
“Wawa doesn’t have diesel. It might be a good idea to have diesel,” said Planning Commission Chairwoman Michele McCauley-Chrisman.
In other developments ….
A new Walgreen’s pharmacy, located next to this property in Limerick, held a grand opening Sunday, July 12. A former drug store building sits vacant at Lewis Road and Ridge Pike.
Further down Ridge Pike, Limerick Diner is working with the township to construct an outdoor seating area on the left side of the restaurant. The owner discussed this proposal with the supervisors at a meeting this spring.
Limerick Garden of Memories, a cemetery on Swamp Pike, will not need to go through the land development process. The commissioners waived the formal application process for Joe Lombardo, who spoke on behalf of the cemetery.
The owners want to build two new mausoleums, totaling approximately 5,400 square feet.

This news will not help the ever increasing traffic on Ridge Pike!

If you think this news does not help the traffic on Ridge Pike, wait until the county toll’s route 422. We need to stay informed with the on going study and process of this project.

Tim,
The opening of a gas station on Ridge/Township line will NOT increase traffic on Ridge Pike. This is a gas station. A place where people stop on the way home, or on the way somewhere. It is not a supermarket, or a hardware store, where people make a special trip to go to it. I see it as good news, since the vacant lot there now (used to be a Valero) is an eyesore, and the opening of a new gas station will keep the WaWA gas station competitive in price. WaWa is currently the only gas station in that area, and therefore can set their price at whatever they choose. Competition is always good for the consumer.

Fully agree with Alex…that location is an eyesore (it was an eyesore even when it was still open!)

I agree with Alex. A Giant gas station would be great, and not cause additional traffic. many people shop at Giant, and receive gas rewards to be used at Giant gas stations, yet the closest is in Pottstown. Who wants to drive to Pottstown to get a savings on gas? Not me!

My comment wasn’t directed exclusively toward the Giant gas station. It was for any new businesses on Ridge Pike. Bottom line, traffic on Ridge Pike is horrendous!

At least something is going in on the Valero/Mobil lot…still never understood why Walgreens had to build a new store with the empty Rite Aid building two miles away. Drug stores are quickly becoming the new Starbucks…too many stores, too close together.

Can we stop building multiple drug stores and banks around here?!!, please get something of value out here, or nothing at all. Knock that old Valero station down, it will creat yet another cluster at another intersection on Ridge Pike.
They really need to figure out Township Line Rd from Ridge to 422. That new school, the YMCA, and the road can not handle the current traffic as it is now.
It seems they build stuff, then worry about the road 5 years after there are many major issues.

I was happy to hear about Giant gas going in. #1 the WAWA always has some of the highest gas prices around! Hopefully this will cause them to lower their prices to stay competitive. #2 It’s not a vacant lot. I agree with a few statements above, do some studies and research to improve the traffic flow on Township!!!!!!!!!!!
