We know it’s early. But recent polling results for next year’s Pennsylvania gubernatorial race show Attorney General Tom Corbett leading the Republican field and Democrat Dan Onorato leading a crowded Democratic slate of choices.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll released today, Corbett leads local Congressman Jim Gerlach 38 percent to 12 percent among registered Republicans.

Forty-seven percent of those asked either refused to answer or did not know whom they would vote for.

Among registered Democrats, Onorato – executive director of Allegheny County since 2004 – has 14 percent of the vote right now.

Auditor General Jack Wagner, Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, Tom Knox, and Mayor of Scranton Chris Doherty all garnered support between 6 and 8 percent.

Who is Knox, one might ask?

According to his Web site, “Tom Knox is different.  He is unlike any other candidate for Governor.  He has never held elective office.  He has never had a college education.  He is not politically connected and he is relatively unknown.”
